Spoiled Christmas

“Sylvia was daily deserted; Allegra had merely had her Christmases spoiled.” (page 48) Do you think this is a fair interpretation of the feelings of an adult child when parents become divorced?

  • RustyJoy, I would really love to see your opinion on this... Any thoughts from anyone?

  • Ok, now that I've got that rude comment off my chest - I think it may be more difficult for an adult child to deal with divorce than a young one. So, no I don't believe this was a valid statement for Allegra - she's still spoiled - but has lots of baggage. I got the impression that she was still trying to find herself - sometimes to the point that her gayness was just another way to get attention.

  • I don't know this, but I do think it's probably harder on young children than adult children -- though I could be wrong. Anyone out there know? And I think it's probably harder for long-time marrieds than younger ones, but, again, thankfully, I don't know. My sympathies here are firmly with Sylvia.

E, why'd you think Allegra was spoiled? I don't think i got that. Curious to know what you think...
