Speaking of celebs ...
OK, I'll post a book-related question in a sec. But I did want to build on Christy's question about celebrities and babies and ask what everyone thought of this big trend toward celebrity adoptions. Did Angelina Jolie start the hippest trend ever? Is this good for the kids getting adopted? Why do you think being a mom has become so cool in Hollywood lately? (And, go ahead, tell us what you think about Madonna's adoption too ...)

I really, really hope this isn't the "trendy" thing to do, all this adoption. I hope that the celebrities are committed to these children completely and not adopting to look good. I think Jolie was doing something that she felt she needed to do. This was the way she chose to expand her family. Now I don't know if fooling around with another woman's husband was the right way to get a baby-daddy, but that is another conversation.
Madonna was on Oprah recently and it seems like she is certianly interested in providing a loving home for little David. She may have jumped on the international adoption bandwagon, but she seems to genuinely be commited to the little guy.

So far, I don't think it has become a 'trend'. I don't hear about much of it happening, other than Jolie and Madonna, but I could be wrong.
I also agree with Mamachristy that if it does becaome a 'trend' then I hope the celebrities go into it whole-hearted, truly wishing to provide a happy home for the children.
Can I just add that I'm expecting Jennifer Aniston to do this eventually as well? From what I read in the tabloids and online, the lack of wanting to have children has caused some major problems in her love life, but she doesn't want to lose her hot bod. Perhaps an international adoption could satisfy the urge to become a parent without her having to fear she is sacrificing something.

Just had to add this: I do not feel that possible gaining a little weight is too much to endure for having a child, but when your career depends on your body it apparently is something celebrities consider.

I suppose I do worry that these celebrities are jumping into adoption because it's the latest thing. But I suppose that it's not much different than the ever-present baby "trend." Is Britney Spears any less shallow because she gave birth to a baby without going to another country? Who knows what her motivation was? Who knows what anyone's motivation is?
